At St. Patrick’s we offer a diverse range of learning intervention programs for students who have specific learning needs. These programs are conducted by specially trained teachers and learning support officers.
We have embraced a dynamic Response to Intervention (RtI) approach, shaping the way we support our students' development.
The RtI model is a comprehensive framework that prioritises personalised support for all students. Through data-driven decision-making and evidence-based practices, we ensure each student receives the attention they need to succeed.
It involves three main tiers:
Tier 1: Universal Screening and High-Quality Instruction:
All students receive high-quality, evidence-based instruction in the classroom across the school.
Teachers regularly assess students' progress to identify those who may need additional support.
Classroom instruction is systematic and cumulative. St. Patrick's is dedicated to structured literacy principles and firmly embraces the Science of Reading and Learning Research (SoR, SoL).
Tier 2: Targeted Intervention:
Students who require more targeted support receive additional, more intensive interventions.
These interventions are tailored to the specific needs of the student and may involve small-group instruction or targeted interventions outside of the regular classroom.
Our current intervention programs on offer are small group PhOrMeS instruction (Phologogy, Orthography, Morphology & etymology, Semantics), MultiLit Reading Tutor, small group phonics instruction (Decodable Readers Australia), Maths Mastery and Extending Mathematical Understanding.
Tier 3: Intensive Intervention:
Students who continue to require additional support after Tier 2 interventions where individualised interventions are provided to address the student's specific challenges, often with the involvement of specialised professionals.
